Advocacy Priorities

We are passionate about a Canada that is free of heart disease and stroke. This is why we advocate for heart healthy and stroke smart lives and communities through public and legislative policies in our towns, cities, province and across the nation.

We influence public policy development and decision-making by providing evidence-based research and information. Our work involves:

  • Identifying care gaps in preventing and managing cardio/cerebrovascular disease
  • Meeting with and presenting evidence-based information to key decision-makers
  • Collaborating with senior government executive, policy-makers and key clinical leaders
  • Developing and disseminating Foundation Position Statements

We build strong and trusted relationships with health-related stakeholders and key opinion leaders and policy and decision makers. Our work involves:

  • One-on-one meetings with Ministers, Deputy Ministers and other senior health-related officials
  • Annual Stroke Awareness Event at the BC Legislature and the MLA Big Bike Ride
  • Annual MLA Breakfast and Health Fair
  • Semi-annual Advocacy Newsletter, Matters of the Heart
  • Heart Smart Survival Kits for newly elected and re-elected MLAs, ministerial staff and senior executives at the Ministry of Health

We develop effective and strategic partnerships with allied organizations that enhance mission-related pursuits. Here are some of our partnerships:

Our primary stakeholders include elected officials, provincial and federal ministries, health authorities, public health organizations, and other health charities and non-government organizations.
