1.     What is the Ismaili Walk 2011 for Heart and Stroke Foundation?

The Ismaili Walk 2011 for Heart and Stroke foundation is a partnership between the Ismaili Muslim Community of British Columbia and Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon. The event raises funds and awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon’s Take the Pressure Down campaign, which works to identify and alert high risk populations in our community and effect behavioural change to lower individual rates of heart disease and stroke.

 

2.     What is the history of the Ismaili Walk?

The Ismaili Walk was founded in 1992 by the Ismaili Muslim Community of BC and benefits a local non-profit organization. The Walk raises funds to further the mandate of partner non-profit organizations. To date, the Walk has raised over $3.2M for local community organizations that have included local hospitals, food banks, the Vancouver Public Library, Simon Fraser University, Habitat for Humanity, the Crisis Center of Greater Vancouver, United Way, and the Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI) at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre Foundation.

 

3.     What is the date of the Walk?
The 20th annual Ismaili Walk takes place on Sunday September 25th, 2011 starting at 11am

 

4.     Where does this event take place?
The event begins at 11am at Lumbermen’s Arch in Stanley Park, Vancouver.

 

5.     How long is the walk?

The walk route is approximately 5 km.  There is also a shorter route for both kids & seniors to follow.

 

6.     What happens after the walk?
There will be live entertainment, a delicious lunch, a silent auction and a variety of free fun-filled activities for the whole family. Visit

7.     How can I participate?
You can participate by

a.Registering to fundraise as an individual or as a team

b.Attending the walk and participating in the Walk day activities

c. Making a personal or corporate donation online or in person on the day of the Walk

8.     Are there prize incentives for collecting pledges?
Yes! There are lots of individual and team prizes to be earned!

9.     Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee. Every participant who raises $100 or more will receive a special t-shirt on walk day. Please indicate your size on the online registration form.

 

10.  Do I get a tax receipt?
Yes, a tax receipt will be issued for all donations.

 

11.  When can I expect my tax receipt?
Online donations paid in full will be issued an electronic tax receipt immediately. Offline donations and donations made by instalments are processed manually. Please allow 10 days for your one-time donation tax receipt(s) to arrive by mail. Donations made by instalments are receipted annually at the beginning of the following year.

 

12.  What do I do with the funds I raised offline?
Hand in all the funds that you have raised to the Registration Tent on Walk Day, along with a print out of any online donations that you have raised. The Registration Tent will be open starting at 9am. All funds raised need to handed in by 1pm to qualify for the incentive prizes.

 

13.  Where does my donation go?
100% of the net proceeds go towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon’s Take the Pressure Down campaign, which works to identify and alert high risk populations in our community and effect behavioural changes to lower individual rates of hypertension, a precursor of strokes and heart attacks.

 

14.  Where do I purchase lunch vouchers?
You can purchase vouchers for a healthy and delicious lunch and snacks from the Coupon Tent on walk day.

 

15.  Where are the washrooms?
Washrooms are located near the Lumbermen’s Arch – Under the By-pass.

 

16.  How can I learn more about the Take the Pressure down campaign?

17.  Can I still make a donation?
Yes! The easiest way is to visit www.ismailiwalk.org, select Donation Form and enter your credit card details on this secure site. Alternatively, you can find information on how to mail or fax a donation by
clicking here.

 

18.  Where do I go in case of an emergency?
For medical emergencies, please visit the on-site Ambulance for assistance.

Additionally, there are two designated marshalling areas which can be found on the field, to the left and right of the stage.

 

19.  What happens to lost children?

All Lost Children will be taken to the Kids Zone.  Children will be reunited with their family through security communication channels.
